Forward regulatory plan: 2019-2021
This forward regulatory plan provides information on regulatory initiatives that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada aims to propose or finalize in the next 2 years through:
- pre-publication in the Canada Gazette, Part I
- final publication in the Canada Gazette, Part II
The forward regulatory plan may also include regulatory initiatives that are planned to come forward over a longer time frame. Comments or enquiries can be made using the contact information included with each regulatory initiative.
Regulatory initiatives
Regulatory initiatives planned or anticipated to be proposed or finalized between 2019 to 2021
- Strengthening worker protections
- Short duration work permit exemptions
- Open Work Permit for Vulnerable Workers
- Regulations amending the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (Regularizing the Spousal Work Permit Pilot)
- Amendments to the Canadian Passport Order to facilitate modernization initiatives
- Amendments to the Passport and Other Travel Documents Fee Regulations to allow waiving of fees in emergency situations
- Remission order to temporarily waive fees for individuals requesting an “X” marker in their IRCC document
- Updating the list of required documents for foreign nationals seeking to become temporary residents in Canada
- Changes to support further enhancements to the in-Canada asylum system
- Changes to support the electronic administration/processing of applications under the Act
- Changes to the definitions and the roles of officers related to inadmissibility based on excessive demand on health or social services
- Regulatory framework on information sharing
