Administrative Burden Baseline: Update 2020

The Administrative Burden Baseline (ABB) provides Canadians with a clear metric on the total number of requirements in federal regulations and associated forms that impose an administrative burden on business. This baseline contributes to the openness and transparency of the federal regulatory system.

All federal regulations administered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) that have requirements that impose administrative burden on business are identified below.

DFO’s 2020 count of regulatory-based requirements that impose a burden on business remains unchanged from the 2019 count of 5,368.

Please note that the ABB count for each regulation only accounts for administrative burden imposed on commercial enterprises, and does not include administrative burden related to recreational fishing, licences required for research purposes, or licences required for scientific purposes. As well, some regulations, annotated with (*), are administered by other government departments who will account for the administrative burden. .
