This regulatory initiative is part of HC comprehensive review of the Pest Control Products Regulations.

Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)

Since the proposed amendments relate to regulatory requirements for research conducted in Canada only, no regulatory cooperation efforts were necessary.

Potential impacts on Canadians, including businesses

Some regulatory changes are expected to reduce administration burden (e.g., adding exemptions for research involving microbial agents); however, some regulatory changes are expected to increase administrative burden. Overall, a reduction in administrative burden is anticipated.

Consultations

Industry consultations on the proposed amendments to the research provisions is expected to take place winter/spring 2021.

Canadians will have another opportunity to provide comments on the proposed regulatory amendments during the Canada Gazette, Part I, public comment period, which is expected to take place in fall 2021.
