Description
Proposal to amend the Canadian Passport Order (the Order) to clarify procedures already in place regarding revocation and cancellation of passports, and to provide new authorities for the Minister to introduce automated processing and decision making to the passport program.
The amendments address specific concerns raised by the Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations and introduce the necessary authorities to support the use of electronic means and automation in the passport processing continuum, planned as part of the Passport Program Modernization Initiative.
These changes will be enacted by amending the Canadian Passport Order, which is the enabling Order in Council.

Consultations
A Notice of Intent to amend the Canadian Passport Order to introduce automation and automated decision making to the passport program has been posted on the Department’s Web page and in the Canada Gazette, Part I. Publication in Canada Gazette, Part II is anticipated in spring 2019.
