Changes to support further enhancements to the in-Canada asylum system

Enabling Act: Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Description

Amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations will be needed to support enhancements to the in-Canada asylum system to address results of the independent review of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) which looked at how to achieve greater efficiencies and higher productivity with respect to the processing of asylum claims. A final report outlining the findings of the review, as well as recommendations for action, was released on June 26, 2018.

These enhancements to the in-Canada asylum system will also address key findings of the evaluation of reforms made to the system in 2012, mandate commitments, the impact of Federal Court decisions on the asylum system, and other issues which have arisen in the course of implementing the 2012 asylum reforms.
