Forward Regulatory Plan: 2020 to 2022: Reviewing the Red Tape Reduction Regulations (Updated)

Title or working title of regulatory initiative

Reviewing the Red Tape Reduction Regulations

Enabling act(s)

Red Tape Reduction Act

Description

The Red Tape Reduction Act (RTRA), brought into effect in 2015, sets out requirements for federal departments and agencies to control the growth of administrative burden on business when developing regulations (i.e., the one-for-one rule). The Red Tape Reduction Regulations (RTRR) set out the requirements for calculating administrative burden, reconciliation timelines, exemptions and reporting. The RTRA stipulates that a review of the Act must be caused 5 years after coming into force, as such preparations for a legislated review are currently underway. As a result of this review, changes to the RTRA and RTRR may be identified.

Key objective(s)

Key objectives will be identified and included in this plan following the review of the RTRA and its associated regulations in 2020.

This regulatory initiative is associated with the department’s Regulatory Stock Review Plan: 2020 to 2030.
